Description

Pınar Sosis from Egetürk is a tinned beef sausage that, according to the manufacturer, has been made since 1980. The tin holds six skinless beef sausages ('in Eigenhaut', meaning they have no separate casing), with 550 g contents and 250 g drained weight. The ingredient list on the label starts with beef (75%), drinking water, beef fat, curing salt and milk protein, followed by spices, seasoning, lactose and dextrose, and the tin carries a halal mark. Because it contains milk protein and lactose, it is not suitable for anyone avoiding milk; the manufacturer states it is gluten-free.

The sausages are already cooked, so there is almost no work: as the label advises, let them steep in hot water for about 10 minutes, but do not boil them. In a Turkish home they turn up in sosisli yumurta (sliced and fried with eggs and tomato), in a hot-dog bun with mustard and pickles, on a breakfast plate beside cheese and olives, or cut into rounds for pasta, pilaf and omelettes.
