In Turkish homes a tray of baklava is rarely treated as ordinary pudding. It closes a long Sunday meal, it is carried to a neighbour's door at bayram, and it is cut into small diamonds so that everyone takes two pieces rather than one. That habit travelled to Britain with the families who settled here, and it is why this section is built the way it is: full Antep style trays for the table, plus smaller single desserts for the evenings when two people simply want something sweet with tea.

Antep shapes, fillings and tray sizes

Most of the range is Sehri Antep 500g trays made in the Antep manner, so you can choose by shape and filling instead of guessing from a photograph. The Sehri Antep 500g Antep Style Pistachio Baklava is the reference point, with a drier, longer keeping version and a walnut tray for anyone who finds pistachio too rich. Rolled and shaped pastries sit alongside it: Bulbul Yuvasi, Mussel Baklava with its curved shell form, Burma Kadayif and a plain Kadayif Dessert of shredded pastry and syrup. Cold Baklava is the modern Gaziantep favourite, made with milk rather than heavy syrup. For one or two people the Lezza 145gr Special Kunafah is the practical size, and a mixed tray covers guests with different tastes. Prices start from under £5.

Keeping a tray at its best

Syrup pastry is happiest at room temperature in its own box, so keep it in a cool cupboard rather than the fridge, where the layers stiffen and the syrup dulls. Cold Baklava is the exception and belongs in the fridge until serving. A 500g tray gives roughly eight to twelve pieces depending on the shape, which suits four to six people after a meal. Warm a plate of pistachio baklava for a few minutes in a low oven to loosen the butter, and serve walnut trays as they are with strong tea. Kadayif takes well to a spoonful of kaymak or plain ice cream.

Baklava — frequently asked questions

How long does baklava delivery take in the UK?›

Orders are sent with DHL Express and normally arrive within one to two business days anywhere in the UK. Orders placed before 12:00 Monday to Friday are typically dispatched the same day, so a tray ordered early in the week usually reaches you well before a weekend meal.

Is delivery free on baklava orders?›

Delivery is free to London and mainland UK on orders of £60 or more. Below that a flat rate of £5.99 applies to the whole basket, so it often makes sense to add store cupboard items or a second tray to the same order rather than ordering twice.

Will I get a tracking number?›

Yes. A DHL tracking number is emailed to you the moment your parcel is dispatched, so you can follow it and plan to be in. Because syrup pastry travels best when it is not left standing, we recommend checking the tracking on the expected delivery day.

How are chilled desserts packed?›

Chilled lines such as cold baklava are packed with ice gel packs and insulated materials so they hold their temperature through the DHL Express journey. Unpack them as soon as the box arrives and move anything chilled straight into the fridge.

Can I order a tray for a specific date?›

You can time it by ordering early in the week and watching the DHL tracking email. We cannot guarantee a fixed hour, but with one to two business day delivery and same day dispatch before noon, most customers ordering on a Monday or Tuesday have their tray in good time.
