Koç Klasik Kayseri Usulü Fermente Sucuk is a horseshoe of fermented Turkish sausage in a 450 g vacuum pack. A red banner on the front marks it as “Tam Baharatlı Acılı Sucuk” – fully spiced and hot – and the pack says it is made in Holland by Koç vleeswaren, a producer of Turkish meat products since 1978. A halal mark is printed on the front, and the sausage is described as a classic Kayseri-style garlic sausage.
Kayseri is Türkiye’s best-known sucuk city, and its style is known for a robust garlic and pepper flavour. At home, slice the sausage into thin rounds and fry it without oil until the fat renders, then crack in eggs for the classic breakfast dish sucuklu yumurta. It is also excellent in toasted sandwiches, on pide and pizza, or cooked with white beans, and it gives a deep, savoury note to anything it is cooked with.
Store the unopened pack in the fridge and keep it vacuum-sealed or tightly wrapped after opening. Use by the date on the pack, and cook thoroughly before serving.
