Chilled items & warm-weather notice

We ship chilled (perishable) foods with ice-gel packs, kept refrigerated. In warm weather, light oil sweating on cured products such as sucuk/pastırma, or softening of cheese, is normal and not a sign of spoilage — it returns to normal once chilled. Please refrigerate items immediately on delivery and be available to receive your order on the delivery day.

Perishable foods are exempt from the 14-day change-of-mind return; your statutory rights for genuine quality or safety issues remain unaffected.

Description

Doğadan rosehip tea comes in a box of 20 tea bags, each one ready to brew a cup of tart, fruity, red tinted tea. Rosehip is called kuşburnu in Turkish, and it is a familiar fruit tea in Turkish homes, especially when the weather turns cold.

What rosehips are

Rosehips are the small red or orange fruits that form on wild roses once the petals fall. In Turkey they grow along roadsides and hedges in many regions, and families have long picked them in autumn to make tea, jam and a thick rosehip marmalade. Dried and crushed, they make an herbal infusion with a sharp, slightly sweet taste, close to a mix of cranberry and apple.

Doğadan is a Turkish brand of herbal and fruit teas, sold in convenient bag form. For the full ingredient list, including whether the bags contain only rosehip or a blend with hibiscus or other fruits, read the box. The product is naturally caffeine free if made only from fruit and herbs, but check the pack to be sure.

How to brew it

  1. Place one bag in a cup or mug.
  2. Pour over freshly boiled water.
  3. Cover the cup with a saucer and leave to steep for five minutes, or follow the time on the box.
  4. Press the bag gently against the side of the cup and remove it.

Covering the cup keeps the heat in and gives a fuller, deeper red brew. Rosehip tea is quite sour on its own, so many people sweeten it with a spoon of honey or a little sugar.

Ways to enjoy rosehip tea

In winter

On cold evenings, a cup of hot kuşburnu with honey and a slice of lemon is a classic Turkish comfort drink. Add a cinnamon stick or a few cloves to the cup for a spiced version.

Cold

Brew three or four bags in a jug of hot water, sweeten while hot, then cool and chill. Serve over ice with orange slices and fresh mint for a red iced tea in summer.

Mixed with other teas

  • Brew one bag with a bag of apple tea for a sweeter, rounder cup.
  • Pair with a little dried hibiscus for a deeper red and more tartness.
  • Add a few slices of fresh ginger for warmth.
  • Blend with a light green tea if you want a little caffeine.

Why tea bags

Loose rosehip tea needs a strainer and some patience, as the dried fruit pieces are hard and the fine hairs inside the hips need to be filtered out. Bags solve both problems. They are also easy to carry, so you can keep a few in a desk drawer or a travel bag and make a cup anywhere there is hot water.

A note on drinking it

Rosehip tea is a food product, not a medicine. If you are pregnant, taking regular medication or have a health condition, check with your doctor or pharmacist before drinking herbal teas every day.

Storage

Keep the box closed in a cool, dry cupboard, away from strong smells such as coffee and spices, which tea bags absorb easily. Use the bags before the best before date printed on the box.
