Chilled items & warm-weather notice
We ship chilled (perishable) foods with ice-gel packs, kept refrigerated. In warm weather, light oil sweating on cured products such as sucuk/pastırma, or softening of cheese, is normal and not a sign of spoilage — it returns to normal once chilled. Please refrigerate items immediately on delivery and be available to receive your order on the delivery day.
Perishable foods are exempt from the 14-day change-of-mind return; your statutory rights for genuine quality or safety issues remain unaffected.
Description
In Turkish, a tiryaki is someone with a serious habit, the kind of person who never says no to another glass. Çaykur Tiryaki is named for exactly those tea lovers. This 1kg pack is a strong, full-bodied blend designed for households that keep the kettle going from breakfast until bedtime.
Grown on the Black Sea Coast
Almost all Turkish tea comes from the steep green hills around Rize, on the eastern Black Sea coast. The region's mild temperatures, heavy rainfall and misty slopes create ideal conditions for tea, and the plants grow slowly through the cooler months, which helps develop flavour. Local growers often point out that the cold, snowy winters naturally keep many pests at bay.
This blend is made from fresh leaves picked in the region and processed in Çaykur's modern factories, so it is authentic Rize tea from field to packet. Çaykur is Turkey's long-standing state tea company, and its blends are the default choice in countless homes, cafés and offices across the country.
What Makes the Tiryaki Blend Different?
Çaykur Tiryaki is one of the company's bolder blends. It brews quickly to a deep, reddish amber colour, with a robust, slightly malty flavour and a pleasant briskness that stands up well to long brewing. That makes it ideal for the Turkish way of serving tea, where a strong concentrate is kept warm and diluted to taste with hot water throughout the day.
If you are new to Turkish black tea, you will notice it is lighter in tannin than many builder's teas, so it stays smooth even when brewed strong, and it is traditionally drunk without milk.
How to Brew Turkish Tea
For the classic method, you will need a çaydanlık, the double-stacked teapot found in every Turkish kitchen.
- Fill the large bottom kettle with water and bring it to the boil.
- Add around one tablespoon of tea per person to the small upper pot, plus one extra for the pot.
- Pour a little boiling water over the leaves, then place the small pot on top of the kettle to steam.
- After a few minutes, fill the top pot with boiling water and leave it to brew over a low heat for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Pour the strong tea into tulip glasses, about a third or half full, and top up with hot water from the kettle.
Serve with sugar cubes on the side. A darker glass is called koyu, a lighter one açık, and everyone has their preference.
A 1kg Pack for Serious Tea Drinkers
A family that drinks tea the Turkish way can get through a surprising amount, and the 1kg pack saves frequent reorders. Store it in a dry, airtight container away from light, heat and strong smells to keep the leaves fresh.
