Description

Dağ kekiği, which translates as mountain thyme, is one of the everyday dried herbs of Turkish cooking; in Turkish, kekik is the shared name for several closely related aromatic herbs. Its aroma is fragrant, slightly peppery and herbal, and the small 30 g pack is easy to use up while the herb is still at its most aromatic.

Kekik is the classic partner of grilled lamb, kebabs and chicken, and it goes into marinades with olive oil, garlic and lemon. Sprinkle it over sliced tomatoes, white cheese or fried eggs, scatter it on pide, lahmacun and flatbread dough, stir it into lentil or tomato soup, or use it in pasta sauces and salad dressings. Crumble it between your fingers to release the aroma, and add it towards the end of cooking for the strongest flavour.
