Creamy tomato soup is a favourite in Turkish homes and a gentle first course for children and adults alike. Knorr's Kremalı Domates Çorbası brings it to the table from a dry sachet. This is the newer Knorr ♥ Doğa design, and the front highlights tomatoes from sustainable farming (Sürdürülebilir Tarım Mahsülü Domates), a Sebze Kaynağı (source of vegetables) claim and a three-layer protective pack. Retailer listings show a recipe built on wheat flour and dried ground tomato with milk-based ingredients, which gives a smooth, lightly tangy soup. The pack photograph shows it in a red-rimmed bowl with a few strands of noodles and fresh basil.
The usual method is to stir the sachet into one litre (five cups) of cold water, bring it to the boil while stirring and simmer on a low heat for about ten minutes, but follow the instructions on your pack. One sachet makes four portions of 250 ml, and the front of the pack gives 225 kJ / 54 kcal per portion. Serve it hot with a handful of croutons or small vermicelli (şehriye) cooked in the soup, a few torn basil leaves, grated kaşar cheese or a drizzle of olive oil, and pair it with a toasted cheese sandwich for an easy lunch.
Store unopened sachets in a cool, dry place. Versions of this soup sold in Turkey list slightly different ingredients, so please read the ingredient and allergen information on the pack before serving, especially if you avoid wheat, milk or celery.
