Gül böreği, or rose pastry, is a Turkish savoury filo pie that is rolled up and coiled so it looks like an open rose. This Fresh Frost version is the mini size with a cheese filling, packed as 480 g of ready-made spirals. The pack carries a HALAL mark and a bakery symbol, and it says the product is ready in 30 minutes.
It is a natural fit for a Turkish breakfast table next to olives, tomatoes, cucumbers and a glass of tea, and it also works as an afternoon snack with çay or as part of a mezze spread. Serve the spirals warm, perhaps with a bowl of yoğurt, or pack a few cold for a picnic or lunchbox.
Keep the pack in the freezer until you bake it, since the label asks you to keep it frozen and to cook it thoroughly. Follow the oven time and temperature printed on the pack and make sure the pastry is hot throughout before serving.
