Ege Kadayıf is a round 400 g tray of fine shredded kadayıf from Ege Kadayıf in Torbalı, İzmir, listed by the manufacturer as Ege Kadayıf Tepsi. The pack describes it as kızartılmış ince tel kadayıf, baked fine kadayıf: the golden strands come already baked and shaped in the tray, ready for syrup. The ingredients on the label are simply wheat flour and water, and the label warns that it contains wheat gluten.
The pack gives its own method for a classic syrup dessert: put 1200 g sugar and 1200 g milk (or water) in a pan and boil for 10 minutes, then pour the warm syrup evenly over the kadayıf in the tray. Decorate it with walnuts or hazelnuts and a spoonful of kaymak (clotted cream) before serving. Made this way it is a traditional sweet for festive tables, family visits and guests, and it goes well with Turkish tea or coffee.
Keep the tray in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The label advises eating the product straight away once the pack has been opened, and the best-before date and batch number are printed on the pack.
