Fresh Frost Mini Twisted Spinach & Cheese Pie, known in Turkish as ıspanaklı ve peynirli gül böreği, is a frozen börek made of thin dough rolled into small rose-shaped swirls. As the badge on the pack says, the filling is spinach and cheese, one of the most familiar pairings in Turkish pastry. The 480 g pack carries a halal mark, a bakery symbol and a note on the front that the product is ready in 30 minutes.
These single-portion swirls suit a Turkish breakfast table, a tea-time plate, a picnic or a buffet. Cook them according to the instructions printed on the pack until the tops are golden, then let them rest for a few minutes so the filling settles. Serve them warm with black tea, ayran, olives and sliced tomatoes, or with a little garlic yoghurt on the side.
The pack says to keep the pies frozen and to cook them thoroughly, and the manufacturer gives a shelf life of one year for the frozen product. Do not refreeze pies that have thawed; take out only as many as you need and reheat any leftovers in the oven so the pastry stays crisp.
