Eti Petit Beurre Klasik is Turkey's everyday version of the French-style tea biscuit: thin, rectangular and lightly golden, with a scalloped edge and a crisp snap. The pack is marked 'Taze Sütlü' (made with fresh milk), and the ingredient list names skimmed pasteurised milk at 6%. This 400 g pack holds two separately sealed 200 g packets, so you can open one and keep the other closed for later.

In Turkish homes this biscuit sits on the tea table next to a glass of strong black tea, but it is just as popular as a baking ingredient. Soak the biscuits briefly in warm milk and layer them with cocoa or vanilla custard and sliced banana for the classic no-bake petibör pastası, or crush them with melted butter for a quick cheesecake base.
