Burcu Garnitür Konservesi, labelled 'Garniture – Mixed Vegetables', is a glass jar of ready-cooked vegetables from the Turkish canned-food maker Burcu. In Turkey, garnitür usually means a mix of peas, diced carrot and potato, and through the glass you can see bright green peas with orange and pale vegetable cubes. The front label shows 310 g net weight.
Garnitür is the classic addition to rice pilaf and buttery vermicelli rice, and the base of Rus salatası, the Turkish take on Russian salad, mixed with mayonnaise, yoghurt and chopped pickles. Drain the jar and fold the vegetables into omelettes, stir them through minced-meat dishes or tomato stews near the end of cooking, or toss them in a pan with a knob of butter and black pepper as a quick side for chicken, köfte or fish.
Store the unopened jar in a cool, dry place. Once opened, move any leftovers with their liquid into a clean covered container, keep them in the fridge and use within a few days.
