Description

Compote, known in Turkey as komposto or hoşaf, is a classic of the Turkish table: fruit cooked and kept in its own sweet syrup so it can be eaten with a spoon or drunk as a cooling fruit drink. This Bodrum apricot compote comes in a clear glass jar, so you can see the fruit before you open it, and the label on the front states no added preservatives, colours or sweeteners.

Serve it well chilled in small bowls, with a spoonful of syrup, as a simple end to a heavy meal. The apricots are lovely over plain yoghurt, rice pudding, semolina cake or vanilla ice cream, and the syrup can be diluted with cold water or sparkling water for a refreshing drink, which makes it a familiar sight on Ramadan iftar tables and summer lunches.

Store the unopened jar in a cool, dry place and chill it before serving. After opening, keep the fruit covered in the syrup, store it in the fridge and finish it within a few days, or follow the instructions printed on the jar.
