Spinach and white cheese is the pairing that many people picture first when they think of a Turkish börek. Besttat's Ispanaklı & Feta Peynirli Tepsi Böreği puts feta, white cheese and spinach into thin layers of dough, shaped as a single coiled spiral in an 800 g tray. The front of the pack shows the "Ready to cook!" label, a halal mark with the words Halal Balkans, an oven symbol of 180 °C and a deep-freeze symbol, and it states that no preservatives are used.
Bake it according to the instructions on the pack, which also tell you whether it goes into the oven frozen or thawed, until the top is golden and crisp. Rest it for a few minutes, cut into wedges and serve warm, ideally with a bowl of yoghurt or cacık, sliced tomatoes and olives, and plenty of hot tea. It makes a satisfying main course for a light supper, but it is equally at home on a breakfast spread, at a picnic once cooled, or as a starter when friends come over.
Keep the tray deep-frozen until you bake it and do not refreeze after thawing. The filling contains cheese and the pastry is flour based, so check the ingredient and allergen list on the pack before serving to anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions.
