Kıymalı tepsi böreği is one of the most popular savoury pastries in Turkish home cooking: thin layers of dough rolled around a seasoned minced meat filling and baked in a round tray. The Besttat Minced Pastry follows that tradition in a coiled spiral, supplied deep-frozen in an 800 g tray. The pack carries a halal mark and a hand made ribbon, and it also states that it contains no preservatives. The front of the box lists soy ("With Soy"), so keep that in mind if anyone at your table avoids it.
Bake it following the cooking instructions on the pack (the oven symbol shows 180 °C), and check there whether it should go into the oven frozen or be thawed first; it is ready when the spiral is golden brown and the edges are crisp. Leave it to rest for a few minutes so the layers set, then cut it into wedges. It is filling enough to be a main dish when served with a yoghurt dip or cacık, a green salad and a glass of ayran, and it also works well on a brunch table or cut into smaller squares for guests.
Keep the tray in the freezer until baking day and do not refreeze it once thawed. Because the pastry is flour based and the pack mentions soy, please read the full ingredient and allergen list on the pack before serving, particularly for guests with allergies.
