Kazandibi is one of the best-known Turkish milk desserts: a soft, set pudding with a dark, caramelised layer on the bottom, served upside down. Başak Kazandibi is a powder mix in a 150 g pack, and the front of the pack marks it as a special Turkish dessert for 4 to 6 servings.
Follow the directions on the pack for the milk and the cooking time. Once cooked, the pudding is poured into a tray or bowl, left to cool and then chilled until firm. It is usually cut into squares or rolled and served cold, often with a light sprinkle of cinnamon. A glass of Turkish tea or a small coffee goes well with it.
Keep the unopened pouch in a cool, dry place and check the best-before date on the pack. Once the pudding is made, store it covered in the refrigerator and eat it within a day or two.
