Cevizli sucuk, also called churchkhela, is a traditional sweet made by threading walnuts on a string and dipping them repeatedly into thickened grape must or molasses until a chewy, glossy coating forms. This Bodrum version comes as a single 80 g stick in a clear vacuum pack, and the label names it 'Grape Molasses with Walnut'.
The result is a dense, slightly chewy sweet with the crunch of walnut running through its centre. Slice it into rounds with a sharp knife and serve it next to strong Turkish tea or coffee, add it to a mezze or dessert board with dried apricots and figs, or keep a stick in your bag as a filling snack. Its grape-molasses sweetness also pairs well with salty white cheese and plain biscuits.
Because it contains walnuts, it is not suitable for anyone with a tree nut allergy. Check the pack label for the full ingredient and allergen information, follow the storage instructions printed on it, and once the vacuum seal is opened, wrap any remaining piece well.
