Description

Napoletana is the gentle, savoury cousin of the spicy tomato sauces: a smooth-textured blend of tomato with onion and carrot, seasoned with garlic, thyme, chives, parsley and a touch of black pepper. Barilla packs it in a 400 g glass jar and the label shows the vegetables and herbs that go into it. Because it has no chilli heat, it is a comfortable choice for the whole family, including children.

Warm it in a pan and toss it with spaghetti, penne or fusilli, or spoon it onto a pizza base as a quick tomato layer. It also makes a good starting point for your own variations: add sautéed minced beef for a bolognese-style sauce, stir in fried aubergine and a pinch of oregano, or simmer meatballs in it. For a Turkish-style dinner, serve it with kaşar or parmesan melted on top and a green salad on the side.

Store the unopened jar in a cool, dry place. After opening, keep it in the fridge, covered, and finish it within five days.
