Kırmızı fasulye, red kidney beans, are a pillar of Turkish home cooking, normally soaked overnight and simmered for a long time. This Bodrum tin saves that effort: the beans are already cooked, and the front of the tin says 'Ready to eat', with a '1 of 5 a day' mark and an Italian-product badge. The 400 g tin has a pull-ring lid, so it opens without a tin opener.
Drain and rinse the beans, then use them wherever you would use cooked kidney beans. Warm them in a tomato and onion base with a little pul biber for a quick kuru fasulye-style stew, serve them over pilav with pickled peppers on the side, toss them into a lemony onion and parsley salad, or stir them into soups, chilli, tray bakes and rice dishes. Because they are fully cooked, they only need heating through, which makes weeknight meals much quicker.
Store the unopened tin in a cool, dry cupboard. Once opened, transfer any unused beans with their liquid to a covered container, keep them in the fridge and use them within a couple of days. Please read the label on the tin for the ingredient list, nutrition values and best-before date.
