This 500 g jar holds Attiki Greek liquid honey, marked 'Grade No 1 Amber' on its honeycomb-patterned label. Attiki has been producing honey since 1928 according to the label, and the amber grade describes the honey's colour class: a warm, medium-dark amber that looks lovely in the glass jar. It is a runny honey, so it pours easily without needing to be warmed first.
A liquid honey like this is the all-rounder of the pantry. Spoon it over strained yogurt and walnuts, spread it on warm bread with butter or cheese, sweeten black tea or herbal infusions, or use it in dressings, marinades and baking where a smooth honey mixes in quickly. Drizzled over fried halloumi or white cheese it gives a simple sweet-and-salty plate.
Store the jar in a cool, dry place with the lid closed. Natural honey can thicken or crystallise over time; this is harmless, and a few minutes in a bowl of warm (not hot) water will loosen it again. Honey is not recommended for infants under 12 months.
