Rize Turist is the yellow-pack black tea that many Turkish families grew up with. Çaykur calls it the family's tea, with deep roots and an aroma handed down through generations, and says it is nicknamed 'Gerçek Sarı' (the real yellow). The 500 g bag holds loose black tea, labelled Black Tea / Siyah Çay, and the pack names the maker as Çay İşletmeleri Genel Müdürlüğü, Rize.
Brew it the traditional way in a two-tier çaydanlık: boil water in the lower pot, put the tea in the upper pot with a splash of boiling water and let it steep on the lowest heat for roughly 15 minutes. Pour a little of the strong brew into a tulip glass and dilute with hot water, making it koyu (dark) or açık (light) to taste. It pairs naturally with a Turkish breakfast, with simit, with biscuits or lokum, and with guests who drop by.
Keep the bag tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from strong aromas; moving the tea to an airtight jar after opening helps it stay fragrant for longer.
