Elma çayı, or apple tea, is a fruit infusion closely associated with Turkish bazaars and tea gardens, and it has long had a place in kitchen cupboards at home too. This pack holds loose pieces of dried apple in a clear bag, topped with a printed card that carries a "100% natural" badge, so the fruit itself is on show before you open it.
To make a pot, measure roughly one to two heaped teaspoons of the pieces per mug into a teapot or infuser, pour on water just off the boil and leave it to infuse for several minutes before straining. A longer infusion gives a deeper colour and a fuller fruit flavour. Tea gardens in Turkey often serve it in small tulip-shaped glasses, and for variety you can add a few cloves, a strip of orange peel or a sprig of fresh mint to the pot. Any infusion left over can be cooled and kept in a jug in the fridge.
After opening, fold the bag over tightly or move the pieces into a jar with a lid, and store them somewhere dry and away from sunlight. The front of the pack does not show an ingredient panel, so please check the label on the bag itself for the full ingredient list, allergen information and best-before date.
