Description

Dried mulberries (kuru dut) are a traditional Turkish treat. Sun- or air-dried mulberries become soft, chewy and sweet with a gentle, jam-like flavour, and they are often enjoyed on their own, especially with walnuts, which is a classic pairing in many Turkish homes.

Besides snacking, you can scatter them over breakfast bowls of yoghurt, porridge or muesli, mix them into a homemade trail mix with nuts, or add them to cakes, cookies and flapjacks in place of raisins. Some people also soak them in warm water to soften them before using them in desserts, compotes or sweet pilaf. They bring natural sweetness, so you may find you need less sugar in a recipe.
