Pomegranate-flavoured instant drink powder, called nar çayı in Turkey, is a popular choice for its sweet-tart taste and deep red colour in the glass. It is a fruit-flavoured drink mix rather than a brewed tea, and the powder dissolves quickly, so it is ready in seconds.

The Ali Baba box suggests stirring two small spoons into a glass of hot water, or one tablespoon into a glass of cold water, and sweetening to taste if you like. Served hot in a small tulip-shaped tea glass it makes a lively winter drink; poured over ice it becomes a refreshing cooler for warm days. It suits plain biscuits, simple cakes and Turkish sweets such as lokum.
