Description

Başak Sütlü Salep Aromalı (Express) is a ready-made powder for salep, the warm, creamy and lightly sweet drink that is an icon of Turkish winters. The 130 g box comes from Başak of Akşehir. The pack lists skimmed milk powder (20%), sugar and starch among its ingredients, with salep, cinnamon, cream, milk, almond and vanillin as flavourings, so you do not have to thicken or sweeten the drink yourself.

To prepare it, follow the directions on the box: it recommends stirring about 3 teaspoons (10 g) into a glass of hot milk, boiling while stirring over medium heat, pouring into cups and serving hot with ground cinnamon on top. You can also use partly or completely water in place of milk. Salep is traditionally enjoyed on cold evenings, after a winter walk or alongside biscuits and dried fruit.
