Dimes Kayısı is a Turkish apricot fruit drink in a 1-litre carton with a screw cap, made from apricot purée concentrate. Apricot is one of Turkey's signature fruits, and this drink brings out its mellow, gently tangy character in a golden pour. It is a fruit drink rather than a 100% juice, which gives it a rounder, softer texture than a clear juice.
Dimes has recently refreshed this product. Older cartons, like the one pictured, are labelled Kayısı Nektarı, while the current Dimes range sells it as Kayısı İçeceği (apricot drink) in a new design. The fruit content and the ingredient list differ between the two versions, so please check the carton you receive for the exact recipe, nutrition and allergen information.
In a Turkish home it belongs on the breakfast table next to olives, cheese and fresh simit, and it is just as welcome in lunch boxes and on picnics. Serve it very cold over ice, top it up with a splash of sparkling water for a light spritzer, or use it as the base of a fruit punch with orange and lemon slices. It also freezes well into homemade ice lollies.
Shake the carton before pouring. Keep it unopened in a cool, dry place away from sunlight; once opened, close the cap, store it in the fridge and finish it within 2 days.
