Tiryaki, literally 'the devoted one', is Çaykur's economical red-pack black tea for people who drink tea all day. The producer describes it as a special blend that can be enjoyed at any hour, with an ideal balance of taste and brew strength, a pleasant aroma and a smooth drink, and states that it contains no additives, its only addition being the warmth of friendship. The pack is labelled Siyah Çay (black tea) and names Çay İşletmeleri Genel Müdürlüğü, Rize, as the maker.
Because the 1 kg bag suits big households, offices and tea-loving friends, it is usually brewed in a large çaydanlık: tea in the upper pot, a little boiling water over it, then around 15 minutes on the lowest heat, with the lower pot of water kept hot for diluting. Serve in tulip glasses with sugar cubes at breakfast, with a slice of cake in the afternoon, or alongside sunflower seeds in the evening.
After opening, press the air out of the bag and fold it shut, or tip the tea into an airtight tin. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from the cooker, spices and damp, so the aroma stays clean.
