Description

Marmarabirlik Plain Olive Paste (Sade Zeytin Ezmesi) is a smooth black olive spread made from natural black table olives and sold in a 340 g glass jar. It is the unflavoured version of the range, with no added herbs or spices, so the savoury, slightly tangy character of the olive stays in front. The paste is made by Marmarabirlik, the Marmara olive cooperative union, and is a product of Turkey.

In Turkey olive paste is a breakfast classic: spread it thinly on warm bread or toast, pair it with fresh cheese, cream cheese or labneh, and add sliced tomatoes and cucumber. Outside breakfast, stir a spoonful into pasta sauces, mash it with butter for a quick canapé topping, use it as a base for pizza or flatbread, or spread it inside a sandwich or wrap in place of mayonnaise.

Store the jar in a cool, dry place; the producer's catalogue lists a 24-month shelf life for the unopened jar. After opening, keep the lid tightly closed, store the jar in the refrigerator and always take paste out with a clean, dry spoon.
