Koska Carob Molasses (Keçiboynuzu Pekmezi, also called harnup pekmezi) is a dark, glossy fruit molasses in an 800 g glass jar with a red twist-off lid. Koska states that its pekmez range is made from 100% fruit with no additives, preservatives, added sugar or thickeners, and that it is produced in a closed vacuum system instead of being boiled open for hours. The jar is labelled "Koska 1907", after the year the Turkish company was founded.
Carob molasses has a rich, slightly caramel and cocoa-like sweetness that is less sharp than sugar. In Turkey pekmez is a classic breakfast item: pour some onto a plate, add a spoonful of tahini, and dip fresh bread into the swirl. It is equally good drizzled over plain yoghurt, porridge, pancakes or semolina halva, stirred into warm milk, or used to sweeten cakes, cookies and homemade granola. The large 800 g jar suits households that use it regularly.
Store the jar in a cool, dry place and keep the lid tightly closed after opening. Please read the label on the jar for the full nutrition and allergen information.
