Propolis is the resinous material bees make to protect their hive, and Hünnap's liquid propolis extract is a water-based version for people who prefer to avoid alcohol. According to the manufacturer, solid propolis is cleaned, extracted in ethanol, and the alcohol is then removed and the extract diluted with water. The result contains 15% pure propolis extract and 85% pure water, with no thickener, preservative, colouring or additive. The 30 ml amber glass bottle has a dropper, and every 10 drops supply 40.5 mg of pure propolis extract.
The suggested use on the maker's page is 10 drops a day for children aged 4 to 10 and 20 drops twice a day for those aged 11 and over, taken with food or drink. It mixes easily into water, fruit juice, yoghurt or a spoonful of molasses, but should not be added to hot drinks. It is not suitable for anyone allergic to bee products, and, like any food supplement, it is not a medicine and does not replace a varied diet. Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, or who takes regular medication, should speak to a doctor or pharmacist first.
The supplement is registered with the Turkish authorities under approval number 007540-13.04.2020, and the pack is marked as alcohol-free. The small bottle is easy to keep at home or in a bag. Close the dropper tightly after use and check the pack for the best-before date and storage advice.
