Fresh Frost Spinach Leaves (ıspanak) is frozen leaf spinach in a 450 g bag. The front of the pack names the product in English, Turkish and Arabic, and shows a vegetable symbol together with the instruction to keep it frozen and cook it thoroughly. Keeping a bag in the freezer means spinach is always to hand for weekday cooking.
Spinach has a firm place in Turkish home cooking. Cook the leaves with onion, a little rice or bulgur and tomato paste for ıspanak yemeği, mix them with crumbled white cheese for a börek or gözleme filling, stir them into lentil soup, or add them to an omelette or a pasta sauce. For fillings, thaw the leaves first and squeeze out as much water as you can before seasoning; a spoonful of garlic yoghurt is the classic partner for a hot spinach dish.
Keep the bag in the freezer until you need it and cook the spinach thoroughly, as the pack instructs. The manufacturer gives a shelf life of two years for the frozen product. Use thawed spinach promptly and do not refreeze it; if you only need part of the bag, reseal it quickly and return it to the freezer.
