Duru Pilavlık Yerli Pirinç is a Turkish-grown rice made for pilaf. It is classed as first grade, long grain, Type C, with no more than 5% broken grains, and the ingredient list is simply rice. Duru Bulgur, based in Karaman, selects the rice at harvest and packs it in factories certified to ISO 22000, IFS and BRC.
A 1 kg pack is a good fit for a household that cooks pilaf a few times a week. Follow the producer's ratio of 2.25 cups of boiling water to 1 cup of rice for a pot that serves a family, and try it as plain buttered pilaf, with a handful of orzo toasted in butter, or cooked in chicken stock to go with roasted chicken. It is also the usual choice beside kuru fasulye, stews and kebabs, and it can fill dolma and sarma.
Store the rice in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Once the bag is opened, transfer the rice to a closed jar to keep moisture and odours out. The producer states a shelf life of two years for the unopened pack.
