Cezerye is a traditional Turkish sweet that is classically made by cooking grated carrots with sugar until they become a dense, chewy paste, then adding coconut and nuts and cutting it into small rectangular pieces. This one is the pistachio version, sold in a box with a viewing window; the box is marked Handmade in Turkey. Because it contains nuts, it is not suitable for people with nut allergies, and the ingredient list on the box should be checked by anyone with dietary restrictions.
Cezerye is usually served on special days and when guests visit. Offer a few small pieces on a plate with strong Turkish tea or Turkish coffee, or cut thin slices to go alongside other sweets such as lokum and baklava on a festive tray. It also makes a pleasant gift for the holidays.
Keep the box closed in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight. Once opened, wrap or cover the remaining pieces so they do not dry out or take on other smells.
